STEETLEY MINERALS

The November 2016 update adds nearly one hundred new specimens to Steetley Minerals from around the world but with the emphasis on the United Kingdom. Many of these are drawn from three collections acquired by us, a few from my own collection and recently collected material from the Pennines.

The Bloch Collection was put together by David and Peggy Bloch originally from Switzerland but who for most of their lives lived in San Francisco. Members of the San Francisco Gem and Mineral Society, they started collecting in 1970 and over the next 30 years they amassed an extensive worldwide collection particularly strong on New World and Swiss minerals. Eventually they retired to England living in Yorkshire.

David Melville was a well known collector originally living in Cornwall and later in the North of England. His special interest was cassiterite specimens so much that in the 1970s he took a job as a miner at Geevor in Cornwall. He had a fine eye for aesthetics, his collection containing many beautiful pieces from around the world. He collected in the mines and quarries of the North of England and put together a particularly fine Coldstones collection.

Additionally we have included a few specimens from the recently acquired Jim Knight collection, Jim lived in Lancashire and had an extensive and important collection of British and rare worldwide minerals a review of which will be published in the New Year.
